Andy Hsu

TENOR

Element name: Hsulfur (Pronounced as shool-fur / ʃuːfər /)

Symbol: Ha

Characteristics: A newly formed metalloid, Hsulfur is spontaneous, multivalent and bonds well with most elements very quickly. It’s lemon yellow in color and tends to enjoy the ‘lime’ light on stage. Hsulfur becomes stable in the presence of double espresso, and accidental ingestion of Hsulfur may leave one feeling high and light.

Andy’s singing experience began when he was living in the United States; he sang second tenor with a Twin Cities chorus in Minnesota, and was exposed to American choral, jazz, pop music and Broadway musicals.

Upon his return to Singapore, Andy joined the Singapore Men’s Chorus (SMC), and sang as second tenor for 10 years. The group explored many genres of music under the baton of Jason Ong and Gregory Chen. At SMC, Andy was featured in several solos, most notably 心事誰人知 (a Taiwanese favorite) and Michael Feinstein’s Old Friend. He was part of the a cappella group at SMC that performed Ring My Bell in afro-diva style to an ecstatic audience! Apart from singing, during his tenure in SMC, Andy also served as Vice-President and oversaw the direction and organizational management for 4 years.

Andy loves jazz, musicals, groove, chillounge and pop music and his style is influenced by  Jobim, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, 80’s-pop, J-pop among others. He listens to a wide variety of great singers & groups, including João Gilberto, Édith Piaf, George Michael, Leslie Cheung and An Zen Chi Tai (安全地帶).

Andy is Chemical Engineer and Marketing-trained and works in the corporate business world by day. He travels rather extensively and has acquired his taste for good food, culture and languages. When he is not working or singing, Andy enjoys tennis, running, nature, and is fond of cats and fishes. Above all, he cannot go without a good shot of home-brewed short espresso!
