Key Elements is group of jazz-loving singers who are passionate about a cappella music and want to spread their love for music far and wide. While their roots are in jazz and pop, they are not afraid to challenge and push themselves to explore new things, and in the process traverse those musical boundaries.
Formed in early 2001, the Singaporean group has held eight full-length concerts locally between 2005 and 2015, all of which were sold out. Apart from their own concerts, Key Elements has performed many times in local a cappella festivals and also supported various programmes held at the city-state’s most prestigious arts venue, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.
They have also ventured overseas. The first foray was to Taipei, Taiwan, in Aug 2004—the group was second at the fourth Sing Sing Choral Ensemble Competition. In Feb 2007, they were in Jakarta, Indonesia, to perform at an a cappella festival organised by the Jakarta International School. Key Elements was also invited to take part in an a cappella festival in Seoul, South Korea, in Nov 2007. In Apr 2008, Key Elements represented Singapore in the annual Genting International Jazz Festival in Malaysia. In Jul 2009, despite travel restrictions due to H1N1, Key Elements made a successful trip to Jeju Island, Korea to perform in the International Choral Festival held there. Most recently, in July 2014, the group participated in the Vokal.total International A Cappella Competition in Graz, Austria and was awarded the Audience Award in the Jazz category, as well as Silver diplomas in both the Jazz and Pop categories.
In between, the members found time to record four CDs: a single called Better than Anything in 2005, a full-length album entitled Jazz for the Record in 2007, a 6-track Mandarin EP in 2010, and a full-length album of originals released in 2013.
